Principles

Sheraz is a firm believer that in order to learn something you must find a teacher who has achieved what you are aiming for. Many years ago he had a personal trainer who taught him valuable lessons which he could then research further and improve upon with his own creativity. Three strong guiding factors over the last fifteen years for him have been:
  • Use common sense and don’t expect miracles overnight - patience leads to success.
  • Continue to learn and receive mentoring from a qualified teacher.
  • Have the determination to see your goal through to the end.
These axioms have been a huge driving force during his training life and are the same principles he attempts to instill into clients and peers.

Statement

"It's clear to most people that a large part of my fitness career has been devoted to getting in the gym and lifting weights. Not just lifting for the sake of it, but driving myself toward a goal of looking a certain way, and ultimately feeling a certain way. I remember when I first started training in the gym at sixteen I realised that I could change my body. It was an immense feeling of control, and I truly felt I could change my life. That change became a reality, although I could probably have done it far quicker with the right guidance earlier on!

For my own part though I have always sought out knowledge, have paid attention to detail, and have worked hard to achieve what I wanted. I knew the only way to get to where I wanted was to put in the effort and realised that no-one could ever give me the result I was striving for - it was all down to me.

More recently, that same mentality has moved over to how I am aiming to develop my boxing skills and fitness. Boxing is one of the most demanding modern sports, requiring incredible stamina, explosive energy, channelled strength, co-ordination, balance, and mental strength. But it’s the disciplines of my weight training that have taught me how to methodically train for boxing – the awareness of my body, the focus of energy, devising a game plan, and then putting in the hours.

Many things have driven me over the years to keep my training consistent, both positive and negative drivers. I wanted to look like sportsmen I respected, yet didn’t want to look like the average man. I wanted to be able to look at myself and feel proud of my achievements. I wanted to maintain a consistency of purpose and results that I could one day show my children in hope of inspiring them to take care of that part of themselves, I didn’t want to be a poor role model of health.

Training is something that has been a part of my life for a long time, and it will be for a long time to come. I look forward to growing and improving more and more as the years go by. And the best thing is, consistent exercise will always knock five to ten years off you! I say to everyone keep exercising and you will feel young, healthy, and full of energy!"
